Why Soapwagon?

We wanted to bring things back to an earlier time, when life was simpler and people friendlier. While we can’t deliver door to door like the old time vendors could, we hope to provide good, friendly, consistent customer service.

Our Products
We feature "just plain soap" - made only from natural ingredients. No preservatives or additives, and unscented. If you have reactions to "store bought" soaps, our soap may just be what you are looking for. Every recipe that we use, we have tested (on ourselves and our families). Our fragrance-free soap will leave you clean, and, in most cases, will not cause reactions on the most sensitive of skins. Some others offer "just plain soap," but use scented oils or other additives. Some of our customers have extremely sensitive skin, and cannot use soaps with any additives whatsoever. So, when we say "just plain soap," we mean "just plain soap."

We use the cold process method in making the soap. Most commercial soaps are cooked, and salts are added to the soap, causing the naturally-occurring glycerine to separate. It is then removed and sold to the cosmetic industry. The remaining soap is harsher, and so chemical emollients are added to the soap to increase its moisturizing qualities (which also increases the possibility of allergic reactions).

Our soap still has the natural glycerine in it, and so is naturally mild and moisturizing. While we cannot guarantee you won't have skin reactions, we have had wonderful feedback from people with sensitive skin that love our soap.

Also, we are committed to providing the best soap possible at the best price possible. We want to provide an excellent product at a reasonable price. We think you will agree.

Why No Fragrances?

Three reasons: First is the fact that scents/fragrances greatly increase the possibility of skin and other reactions. One of the reasons we started making soap in the first place is because we frequently got rashes or other allergic reactions from the normal, store-bought soap. Click here for more information on potential problems with fragrances. Using natural scented oils does not guarantee them to be free from allergic reactions, so we have chosen to not use any additives, scented or otherwise.

The second is cost. The good quality essential oils necessary to make quality scented soaps are not cheap, which would drive the price of the soap up. We want to provide the best quality soaps for the lowest possible prices (while still making a profit, of course!).

The third reason is also related to cost. Adding the fragrances is an additional step in the process of making the soap, and can sometimes cause problems, which increases the labor necessary. Again, we want to provide the best quality soap at the lowest possible cost, so keeping extra labor processes out, we can keep the final cost down.

Do We Use Lye in Our Soap?

Yes. There is really no other way to make soap without lye (sodium hydroxide - NaOH). Commercial soaps also use lye, but they list the final results of the saponification process as the ingredients list.

Our soap is cured for at least 4 weeks to insure that all the lye has been combined with the oils, so there is no active lye in the soap by the time we ship. We also "superfat" our soaps, to make sure there is no active lye and to make the soap more moisturizing.
