Christian-Net Home Edition
Questions & Answers
Filtering Technology & Compatibility
Does your filter block every single pornographic web site?
While we wish it could, unfortunately no filter can block all pornographic web sites, but our filter does an excellent job. In our tests, it blocks about 99% of pornographic web sites, while blocking less than 1% of good web sites.
Is your filter server-side or is it installed on my PC?
Actually, it's a mixture of both. Our filtering service is provided on the server-side, but it is enabled by software that you install on your PC. This gives our product the best of both worlds. We can offer you the security and managability of locally-installed filtering, while offering you the power, speed, and security of server-side filtering.
Will your filter slow-down my Internet access?
If the software is operating correctly, there should be no noticable slow-down in your Internet access. There is a slight delay (usually less than 1/10 of a second) while the filter checks with the server for permission to access the web. If you notice a slow-down after installing Christian-Net Home Edition, you may have another program on your computer that is causing a bad interaction with our software. Check the User's Guide for troubleshooting information.
Do you offer hardware-based filtering that doesn't require the installation of software?
Yes, Christian-Net Network Edition helps you turn a dedicated computer into a hardware filtering appliance with the same powerful filtering technology that powers our Home Edition.
What operating systems does Christian-Net Home Edition support?
Our Home Edition supports all versions of Windows from '98 and up (inculding 98, ME, 2000, XP, Vista, and 7) and MacOS X10.5 or better. You can purchase the service and use it on both Mac and Windows systems simultaneously. Our Home Edition product will not work with Linux-based systems.
What types of web sites can I block?
Our filtering system automatically sorts web sites into different categories. To see a full list of the categories available for blocking, please see Chapter 4 of the User's Guide.
Does Christian-Net Home Edition include virus protection, a firewall, or pop-up blocker?
Sorry, but no. However, there are high-quality free antivirus, firewall, and pop-up blockers available. Check out our Security Resources section to find them.
Does Christian-Net Home Edition block spam and virus-infected email messages?
Yes, the 5 mailboxes available with your account include Google's advanced spam and virus filtering. However, we can only filter the content of our own "cnonline.net" email addresses. You can forward your other mailboxes to your cnonline.net ones, or you can use the mail settings to check your other boxes via POP3.
Does this service include access to the Internet?
No, Christian-Net Home Edition includes only our filtering & accountability service. For filtered dial-up service, try our sister company, saferaccess.com.

I'm concerned with keeping myself free from Internet pornography. How should I set-up the filter to protect myself?
We believe that the most important step in getting free from Internet pornography is to have an accountability partner you can trust. Our filter is designed to be used as a tool to help you stay accountable. We recommend having your accountability partner sign-up for, install, and configure your web filter. For maximum accountability, you should set-up the filter to send daily reports to your accountability partner.

If you're still having trouble, please contact us for help.
Why don't my time-based settings work correctly?
